In recent years, Southeast Asia has rapidly emerged as one of the world’s leading travel regions following the post-pandemic reopening, increasingly positioning itself as a strong competitor to the Americas and even Europe — long considered the traditional powerhouse of global tourism.

According to a report by Aviation A2Z, the region is witnessing record-breaking aviation growth in 2025, with several airports significantly expanding capacity and reaching remarkable operational milestones.

Ranked fifth among Southeast Asia’s fastest-growing destinations, Phu Quoc has also become the region’s sixth-busiest airport for transit passenger traffic.

“Phu Quoc is renowned for its palm-fringed coastlines and pristine white-sand beaches, complemented by a wide range of upscale yet affordable resorts that continue to attract international travelers. Despite being one of Southeast Asia’s fastest-growing destinations, the island still remains largely underrated,” Travel Off Path noted.Vẻ đẹp hoang sơ, yên bình. Ảnh: Vinh Gấu

Located in Kien Giang Province, Phu Quoc spans approximately 589.23 square kilometers. Once a remote island surrounded by dense forests and winding dirt trails, it has gradually transformed into a vibrant destination — from the lively Duong Dong Town to the expansive VinWonders theme park filled with immersive entertainment experiences — offering visitors a diverse and memorable journey.

Travelers visiting Phu Quoc can explore destinations such as Rach Vem Fishing Village, Ganh Dau Cape, May Rut Islet, Than Islet, Phu Quoc Prison, and the bustling Night Market. The island is also celebrated for its distinctive seafood cuisine, including herring salad, Bun Ken noodle soup, sea cucumber, sea urchin, and the famous Ham Ninh boat.

In January 2025, Phu Quoc International Airport recorded an impressive growth rate of 185.2%, equivalent to more than 108,000 additional airline seats introduced during the period.

This surge has been strongly supported by the island’s traveler-friendly visa policy. Phu Quoc remains the only destination in Vietnam where international visitors can enter visa-free for stays of up to 30 days.

The ranking also features several of Southeast Asia’s most iconic travel destinations, including Bangkok (Thailand) in first place, Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) in second, Singapore in third, and Phuket (Thailand) in fourth.
